I had booked through hotel.com. The email stated that everything was taken care of. When I checked out the next morning, the man at reception told me I had to pay the "tourist tax". It was a minimal amount but I had no cash and then offered to pay via visa card. The man said they didn't accept payments under 10 Euros. I said I had no cash and I had no idea about this tax being due upon check-out. He started arguing how it is on your website and I had to counter argue that I had not booked through your website and in addition, who reads through every page of a website for a hotel?? As he took my credit card he shook his head in annoyance which I felt was undeserved and I called him on it. And that is why I am rating service as poor. Also, the batteries in the TV remote were dead. And lastly, a friend of mine in Berlin owns two motels and she told me this tax is included when you book through hotel.com. (!!) I stayed Nov 27/28 2017
the man at the reception was me and believe me... We are not obliged to explain the reservation conditions to each guest at checkin again. Even if it is only a very small amount, we have to pay this 100% to the City of Berlin. Surely we understand you but please you will understand if we can not take care of thousands of guests a year. Especially as the guests on Expedia and booking very, very cheap room rates.
