When checking in I was told I "received an upgrade", from 'standard' to 'executive' - that's a laugh. The room was comfortable, yet small and basic. (If THAT is your 'executive', I'd like to see the 'standard'...) Now I don't care for 'executiveness' or luxury etc.; 'basic' will do just fine for me. Just don't gimme that "reception talk", OK. Please don't think people are that stupid.

The room was hót - for some reason the airco is set to a MINIMUMtemperature(!?!?) of 19° C; which by all means is too hot to sleep for me. I was told this could NOT be adjusted. Now there is (obviously) NO way everybody comfortably sleeps at the same temperature; then why set a mimimum standard for everyone!?

Eventualy a maintainance guy was called in & he lowered the standard to 16° at my request. Still the control board never indicated anything lower then 19,6 ° C room temperature on average during the total of 7 nights of my stay.

On top of that, in good old 'modern day' American hotel service tradition, the windows are blocked 99% - "for security reasons". (That, however, has nothing to do with the security of us, hotel guests; it's because American hotels used to get sued the hell out of them for having 'openable' windows, by the remaining family of any poor/disturbed person that committed suicide by jumping out of his/her hotel room. Now since the rest of the world is not THAT obsessed with legal action in pursue of 'personal justice' that defies all logic & common sense, it's a real pitty that we ALL get treated this way! But anyway.)

Thanx to the (very!) few inches that would open, I was able to get a couple of hours of sleep, every night - provided that these inches remainened open the whole day. When I noticed that the cleaning lady closed it during daytime, I started leaving a note on my bed asking her to leave the window OPEN. That worked out very well - but if ever I forgot the note, the window would be closed again. Now I don't know if it's a different (set of) girl(-s) each day, but one way or the other, your guests shouldn't be occupied with things like this - although I realize I could/ should have put the question to the reception (as well).

All in all, I'd recommend this hotel to anybody for a couple of reasons: the superb location, a beautiful building, very friendly & helpful (within the limits of their possibilities off course), capable & (clearly) educated staff . Also the breakfast buffet gets an honourable mention! On top of that, due to the booking site I used, I got a very interesting rate, resulting in a very good price/quality equation.

Not only was the hotel quite satisfying; the city of Budapest (first-time visit) was lovely too - an absolute treat. So I have nothing but the fondest memories of my trip, and I will certainly be back. Yes, back to the Continental "Zara" as well. I'll bring my personal fan, next time.

Dear Filip,

Firstly thank you for your staying at our hotel, and also thank you for taking the time and trouble to fill up the Guest Questionnaire regarding your stay.

I was happy to read that you have mostly enjoyed your stay with us, and although you have some criticism about the room and the temperature, you were very satisfied with the service of our staff, the lacation of the hotel, and also with the breakfast.

Regarding to your complain I would like to inform you Filip, your room was a corporate room, not an executive. There are some differencies between the standard and the corporate rooms, such as the working table and the tea and coffee machine.

On the other side I can totally understand your frustration about the temperature of the room. I do apologize for that.

Thank you again, we look forward welcoming you again at Continental Hotel Budapest****Superior.

Best regards,
Peter Pavletits Front Office Manager

Why can the wellness area not been included in the room price in low seasons?
