Our stay at Dorint was disappointing for several reasons.
One of the main reasons we chose this hotel was the swimming pool. Unfortunately, the pool was closed during our stay, without this being clearly communicated before arrival. When travelling with children, facilities such as a pool are an important part of the booking decision.
In addition, I find it remarkable that when booking a room for one adult and two children, the hotel automatically assumed that an extra bed was required and charged additional costs. If a room is offered and booked for three people, it should be suitable for three guests without unexpected surcharges.
What is even more disappointing is the way the hotel handled our complaint afterwards. Instead of addressing the issues raised, we received a generic response thanking us for our “fantastic stay” and expressing hope to welcome us again in the future. This gives the impression that customer complaints are not read or taken seriously.
A complaint deserves a substantive response, not a standard template that completely ignores the concerns raised.
Overall, the combination of unavailable facilities, unexpected extra charges, and a dismissive response to a legitimate complaint has left us with a very negative impression of this hotel.
thank you for your review. We take guest feedback seriously. However, as several statements in your review do not correspond to the documented communication and sequence of events, we would like to clarify the facts.
You booked a room on 5 August 2026 for one adult and two children. At 8:00 a.m. on the same morning, several hours before your arrival, our hotel contacted you in writing.
In this message, we explicitly informed you that an additional bed could be provided at a charge of €35.00 per night. We also asked you to confirm by 1:00 p.m. whether you required an additional bed.
Against this background, we cannot agree with the statement that you were only informed of the additional charge upon arrival. The price of the additional bed had already been communicated to you in writing before your arrival and was therefore neither an undisclosed nor an unexpected charge.
The same applies to the swimming pool facilities. In our message sent at 8:00 a.m., we explicitly informed you that access to Holmes Place is restricted to persons aged 18 and above. We also specifically asked whether you would be travelling with children or young people under the age of 18 and invited you to contact us regarding this matter.
Holmes Place is an external sports and fitness provider and is not operated by the hotel. Its access regulations, including the minimum age requirement, are determined by the external operator and are therefore outside the hotel's control. Nevertheless, the relevant age restriction was explicitly communicated to you by our hotel before your arrival.
We therefore cannot agree with the statement that you only found out on site that your children could not use the pool. Nor can we confirm the suggestion that essential information was only disclosed after the booking or upon arrival. The documented correspondence shows otherwise.
We would also like to clarify an important point regarding your comments about the handling of your complaint. Your complaint was submitted via Booking.com. The automated or standardised response you subsequently received was not written or issued by our hotel and was therefore outside our control. We regret if this response gave you the impression that your complaint had not been read or taken seriously by the hotel. However, the content of an automated response from Booking.com cannot be attributed to our hotel.
We fully accept that guest concerns should be addressed appropriately. At the same time, we believe it is important that public reviews accurately reflect the documented sequence of events.
We regret that your stay did not meet your expectations. However, based on the written communication available to us, we cannot agree with the characterization of our communication regarding the additional bed and the Holmes Place age restriction as “misleading”. Both matters were explicitly communicated to you in writing on the morning of your arrival.
Kind regards,
yours Sandra Weinsheimer, Guest Relation
