i stayed in naples at the beginning and the end of my trip. my later hotel was bigger and near the train station so i'm glad i got to stay in the Old Town area at Il Convento. What atmosphere! Wonderful! Little restaurants, stores, tiny churches, a Sunday-night only fish monger, and even the Sophia Loren memorial pizza joint! I loved my former convent-cell room although a TV would've been nice. It had a balcony looking down on the street life! The staff helped call a cab promptly for my sightseeing so i did not take the underground once or a public bus, both of which i was nervous about. The staff was gay-friendly, attractive, all-male, and very welcoming and indulgent of my poor Italian.
