The hotel employees were exceptionally cordial and helpful. I would like to specifically cite the young woman who checked in my wife & me on the afternoon of July 30th. Exemplifying the highest standards of hospitality, she actually took us to our room, gave us a comprehensive overview of the room‘s features, & showed us how to log in to the hotel‘s wi-fi. Kudos to the hotel for having such a wonderful employee on its staff!
The superior room had a lovely view of the lake, was well appointed, had comfortable beds, and was immaculate.
The meal we had in the lovely Kleine Terrasse was superb, for which I commend the chef. However, the wait staff did not meet the high standards of the Hotel
Murtenhof. For example, were it not for the gentleman in charge, we might never have received the wine & water we ordered. After waiting an usual amount of time for our drinks, I alerted him to the situation as he was passing our table, & he quickly rectified the situation. More disappointing was that later in the evening, as it grew cooler and only 6 patrons, including ourselves, remained on the Kleine Terrasse, having obviously finished our meals, we sat shivering while two waiters laughed and joked with the young couple at the next table and even provided them with blankets. After 10 minutes I informed the waiter who spoke only French that we wished to sign our bill and leave, but he simply returned to continue his interaction with the young couple. We spent another 10 minutes shivering in the dark until the waiter who spoke German approached our table, & we informed him that we wished to leave.
A few minutes later the waiter who spoke exclusively French finally appeared with the necessary form to sign, though not without making light of my attempt to compliment the restaurant because of my limited French, and we finally left the Kleine Terrace. I hasten to emphasize that the meal was superb & that our overall experience at the Hotel Murtenhof was highly enjoyable, but I did want to bring the regrettable situation with the wait staff to the hotel‘s attention.
