Staff was very friendly but the overall facility needs some money spent on it. It’s dated. I had to ask if it was built as a work camp originally and converted.

Spend some our money we spend in your hotel and make it equal to the prices you charge.

Get rid of your grandparents furniture that’s hanging around and have continuity.

We are a small family owned hotel and our style is to have this as an Icelandic home and not like any other hotels you will find. But we understand that this is not everyone's style. A nice hotel for the healthy. But not ideal if you've lung issues. SO2 levels from nearby volcanic vents ranged from 25-100 µg/m3. In the 0-350 range this won't bother most people, but those with lung issues may have respiratory symptoms. We did have symptoms when we opened the windows to try to cool the room below 24°C. My wife likes to sleep at 20°C, so we had an uncomfortable night. To avoid whiny customers you might want to mention this. No way to know this before hand unless you inform potential customers in advance. We left after 1 night of a 3 night booking. Because we booked though hotels.com, we were refunded 1 night for 2 rooms, but were still charged $650 for the second night we did not stay. I understand the business need, yet cannot help but had we known of the SO2 issue we probably would have avoided the hotel to everyone's benefit. Despite this very particular complaint, this is a wonderful hotel for most.

Hi Barry, thank you for your review. We tried our best to solve the issue you mentioned and did in fact refund you, your last night. It is very hard for a hotel to encounter for all possible scenarios. We have an active website for air quality in Iceland and this is very much based on the wind direction. So we never know if we get higher or lower levels of air quality. We have had 8 eruptions in our area since December 2023 and it has been widely covered in the news and we also talk about this on our website. So it would have helped us if you would have contacted us beforehand as if you have lung issues so we could have given you detailed information of our area and the link to this air quality website. As you mentioned the levels are at the very low end to bother most people. We are happy to hear that you felt our hotel being nice and hopefully we will see you again, some day.

I love this hotel. I love the location in the lava field. The rooms are cute and comfortable and the food is delicious!

It was a very warm welcome at the Northern Lite Inn. The Place is good to make daytrips to the lavafields or the Blue Lagoon.
