Have stayed here on numerous occassions and have always had a pleasant and relaxing time, staff are always helpful even when very busy, which i believe is a sign of good service and good management. i will stay here again and other members of my family have enjoyed the royal as well.

Due to it being an itison deal and great value, the negatives commented on were softened somewhat. Howvever, if I had been paying full price I would not have been happy.

It was ok for two nights otherwise would have asked if there was other rooms on floor below, if returning that would have to be made clear.

Third floor twin rooms were small, badly in need of renovation, and there was no drawer space. The bathroom a bit mouldy and nowhere to keep toiletries or hang towels to dry.

the hotel side was top class. the restaurant waiting and bar staff need to up their game. I have years of hospitality experience, as a provider and a customer, so I recommend that the Maitre de leads positive behaviour, by example. also, it would be better if a 'polite' notice was placed on the bar (Hotel side) asking customers to to the other side to order drinks.

food excellent! However so many 'waiting staff' and none of them friendly, smiling and clearly unhappy at work...'maitre de' never came near customers to ask about service or food...why? A waiter did ask us if "everything alright" and we said the food was very good.

bar staff a bit snippy as we went to the hotel side to order drinks and told by the barlady "you need to come to the other side" and she walked off!
