Great central location. Inverness can't help the weather in February but the hotel was cosy to return to. Room was absolutely fine but could do with brighter lighting and can't be that great for people with poor vision (ECO bulbs in table lighting but you can buy them beyond the dull luminescence of the really cheap ones/ you've got nice rooms...light them up !). We had opted for full buffet breakfast each morning but I only had the 'works' on 1st day (of three) as the sausages were pretty bad and the glass lidded warmers made potatoe scones 'sweat'. Day 2+3 I settled for scrambled egg with bacon on toast which was way better. The selection of fruits, pastry's, yoghurts and jams etc were all very nice. Staff all very warm/friendly especially the Scottish lady with short blonde hair who manned the coffee bar by reception area and welcomed us for breakfast last morning. Lovely bathroom, all white marble effect tiles and pumping hot water (though I learned to turn shower on for 1 minute before stepping in as it takes a short while to get to warm/hot). Maid service was pretty good too, fresh bed, fresh supplies of tea/coffee/milk each day. Reception / lounge area: DO try the cheese platter. £18 total gets you and one other any large glass of wine from wine menu and a fabulous selction of cheese and crackers/cheese biscuits........loved this. ASH restaurant was ok. For value for money it's so much better to reserve a table to be seated before 6pm when there are offers/discounts. It really isn't that worth it to pay the full price for a meal there after 6pm no matter how lovely the staff are. Overall this is a very old (and historic) hotel and it still retains a lot of Victorian character features which is a plus (especially for tourists). It was built to meet the extension of the 'new' railway way back in 1854 so by virtue situated in a busy hub of commercial / leisure exchange and it still retains a certain vibrancy associated with the Industrial Revolution of the 1850's and I liked it all the more for that. Given the previous sentence you can take it that this is not a rural 'away-from-it-all' spa break hotel but a lovely little hub of coming and going. My 3 nights there were greatly appreciated. One last thing Royal Highland. Those lovely little gallery windows high above the reception area should have all paint scraped off and be allowed to once again let light into the corridors. This was clearly the original design intention. Would I return .........100% YES

As always we are delighted to come to the hotel once again. The service never changes (always good) the only new thing this time was the carpet (brand new and only fitted on our arrival day. The food at breakfast is always a spoilt for choice experience, and our evening meal in the Ash was very good indeed. I look forward to seeing you again soon. Thank you

Very good apart from the room we were in, obviously the door to the bathroom had been changed, The reason we knew this was the colour was different to the decor of the bathroom also the handle on the bathroom door had not been fixed properly the screws had not been tightened and my husband took the screws out in case I was locked in , also the shower was either very cold or scalding hot no happy medium. I think that because the screws were lying beside the sink the person that cleaned the room must have informed maintainance as it had been repaired while we were out
