Went for my girlfriend and i’s anniversary.
This was the second visit for me but this time we got a superior double- and we were lucky enough to get the bunker room! Really cool decor, beautifully clean. The shower was wonderful and soo nice and hot. The staff were lovely upon check in and had a nice chat with us when checking out. Didn’t try the food this time as we had reservations, but during my last stay back in 2021 the food was impeccable and judging by reviews it’s just as delicious as ever. Thanks so much for this amazing stay!
Parking was also well priced compared to any other nearby car parks and we were able to get a spot.
Hotel also felt very safe and secure with doors locked past 10pm (you can still get access if you are staying there)

Poor as per above. We paid around £180.00 for the room rate per night and I have never ever...& I mean never ever slept in a room without a window! In my opinion, we were allocated a "cupboard". Whilst I can see that a business client may only view a bedroom as a mattress for a sleep, we had booked for 2 nights on a leisure break and we were not warned about this at all. We were told at check in about a device on the wall to allow us to open our "window" and we did not think for a second that it would mean an at height velux!! I consider myself as a claustrophobic person and the fact that I could not tell what the weather was like until I reached the breakfast room in the morning horrified me. I also lost sleep worrying about the risk assessment done or not done about getting me out the room in the event of a fire just outside my bedroom door!

Before checking in, we had messaged the hotel to specifically request a nice room. We had not been away from home for around 13 years due to family illness, dogs without suitable doggy day care etc and this break in York was very much looked forward to....I feel absolutely cheated.

We had room number 123 and we saw that the room next door to us had a lovely window and we guess that this next door room would not have cost that much more than we paid.

At checkout, we were seen by a jovial chap who did not ask whether everything was ok with our stay. He did not ask whether we had enjoyed our stay in york and he did not wish us a safe trip home. All very basic things that anyone with customer service at the heart of what they do, would have considered as a standard bid farewell. The chap that dealt with is made a joke about no outstanding balance but none of the basic customer service.

The car park was also a nightmare. At the time of departure, there was 2 cars parked outwith specified bays which meant it was extremely difficult to get out the car park. There was 2 cars trying to come and us and one other car trying to get out. So....just an idea...but rather than 3 very jovial chaps at reception having a laugh and drinking mugs of tea, at least one could have helped in the car park at busy check out times and the policing of the correct parking.

It’s good to know that you found our location convenient for your needs in York, especially being close to Bootham and on the right side of town for your visit. We are always pleased when guests are able to make the most of our position in the city.

However, I am truly sorry to hear about your disappointment with your room allocation and to learn that your experience fell short of your expectations. A couple of our rooms, due to the unique layout of our historic building, do feature large velux roof windows, many guests do like the 'loft' style of these rooms and we're sorry that it wasn't for you. The blinds and window do open so we're confused why you didn't have natural daylight in your bedroom.

Your remarks regarding our check-out service are also noted. Our reception staff are normally highly rated for their customer service but perhaps you checked out at a busy point when they had less time to chat.

Room rates are higher than normal both this week and next due to the half term holidays are we're sorry that you didn't feel that you received value for money.

We had a great time and the staff especially the manager were fantastic. The room was lovely we stayed in 10 Downing Suite

We loved the hotel - the staff were beyond friendly and helpful - we had 2 outstanding dinners in the restaurant - and the location was wonderful

We were booked in room 137 for the first two nights and then moved to room 109. Room 109 was described as a small room, but we found it was far easier to maneuver around. Would certainly recommend 109 over room 137 .

We always return to this hotel every year.Staff good in restaurant and reception especially. Room was a little small but fine for us as we are small people!
