We stayed for a couple of nights in two different rooms.
Lovely, clean hotel with much thought gone into the general décor. The 'bunker room' is unique and the room (140) we had on our second night was excellent.
The location is great as only 5 minutes walk from the town centre.
The staff were really helpful, happy and friendly.

Perfect, staff were really helpful for places to eat, drink etc.
Hotel couldn't be any closer to Yorks centre and also a few steps to the entrance for the walls.

“Very average and overpriced - has potential.”

To set the scene I've travelled Asia and Europe and stayed at some great places along with some not so good places. I work hard and I'm happy to pay for value.

This is the first hotel out of 100 where I felt I was being overcharged for what was offered.

For people in a hurry this hotel is not good value for money.

Reasons:

1. The bed was most uncomfortable I've stayed on. The room was also looked nothing like what I had booked online.
2. The parking... parking isn't included in the room rate, you are charged £10 per night to park. Yes it does advise hidden away and poorly written under facilities on Booking.com but I find this a bit Ryan Airesque.

3. Breakfast, to keep this purely factual. It cost me £10 for a "breakfast sandwich" which consisted of 1 sausage plus 1 rashes of bacon... let that sink in... 1 sausage and 1 rash of bacon. The 1 sausage was really tasty I must admit. However ridiculously priced.

To summarise, if your after an expensive not great value you for money stay then this is the spot. The 2 fundamentals of any hotel have to be a good bed and a good breakfast... this delivered on neither of those fronts. For those who may say why didn't you raise this, I think they are fundamentals that aren't for me to raise directly when I'm trying to enjoy a relaxing break.

We have stayed at The Churchill a few times now and enjoyed every visit. The staff are very helpful, especially a chap called Ian. The location is great as well. We will definitely be going back again.

This was a lovely hotel to stay at, offering the perfect location to explore York. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was delicious too!

The hotel is in a good position. Easy 10 min. walk to York centre. Good parking, but charge to park should be removed. All staff were very good, pleasant and helpful. The hotel is old worldly with lots of character and very nice and clean. Bed hard..why? (Why hotels do not offer rooms with varying bed comforts, viz. hard to soft and provide a choice I cannot understand). Attention to food quality is required. We would return, but to a softer bed, preferably.

Amazing room, people are friendly and enthusiastic, in some ways better than 5 stars hotel. It is a sham that we didn't fully enjoy the breakfast due to the train time.
