The ambiance was great. The pool lovely to unwind after sightseeing. The building itself was a pleasure to experience and great to explore the history behind it. Close proximity to everything. Forgot next to the pool.

The hotel proved to be an ideal base for exploration of the historic center and a quiet refuge when I wished to stay "at home," reading in the beautiful gardens or sipping a glass of wine by the pool. As an art historian, I especially appreciated the sensitive restoration of the magnificent ex-convent. The front-desk staff could not have been more helpful: for example, they arranged for a car and driver to take me to Monte Alban, and to get me to the airport in time for an early-morning flight. The hotel's one drawback is that it regularly rents out the former chapel for outside events: there were three of these during my week's stay, and they were all exceptionally noisy, with large crowds and loud music. My room happened to be quite close to the chapel, so from 5:30-10:30 PM on fiesta nights I had to go elsewhere. I recognize that such events must provide the hotel with an important source of income, but visitors should be alerted in advance to suich disruptions, which seem especially invasive because the hotel is otherwise so tranquil.
