This was not just a boring American chain hotel, but rather a beautiful — albeit expensive— Mexican experience. We loved spending time at the hotel, making our visit to Oaxaca feel like a kind of resort. We ventured out all around the area, and then were delighted to sit by the pool, use the small gym, find lovely spots to sit and read. We asked for and really enjoyed a personalized tour of the hotel— such a fascinating history! Our bathroom shower did leak a bit, (it hasn’t been updated too recently) but that was small inconvenience and frankly, almost added to the charm. We’ll be back— I feel rejuvenated after being here.

This is an architectural beauty of a building. An oasis to be sure. Beds comfy. Huge clean fresh towels daily and chocolates at turn down. Location perfect for exploring. Also very easy to set up English speaking drivers for going into the countryside. Loved this place.

Fabulous in every respect — except, the bathroom needs updating.

We loved the unique quality of the building. It was beautiful and historic and thoughtfully converted into a hotel. THe restaurant was outstandingly good. I dont understnad why it wasn't packed every night. It was SO much better than Casa Oaxaca and Criollo. The furniture in the room was a little shabby and banged up, but we forgave it because we understand what a large hotel it is and how expensive it would be to overhaul everything. It was a peaceful oasis in a hectic part of town (but great to be close to sites to see). Without exception the service was fantastic (except for the room service orders which were wrong - but the people were so nice about it and trying to do right). Everyone was so generous, gracious, professional. They seemed to enjoy their jobs, so I assume management is respectful and kind to them.
